DIY Hair Removal Wax using SUGAR!!! DIY or BUY

So I’ve had a love hate relationship with waxing for as long as I remember. It keeps my skin SOOO smooth but also the pain!! But I guess the pain just lasts for a few seconds! When I found this sugar waxing recipe I really wanted to try it!! There are 2 versions of this recipe a hard strip free sugar wax and a soft wax you can use with wax strips.

Lets see how it compares to store bought versions?

Sugar Wax Hard Wax (Strip free waxing)

You’ll need 2 cups of sugar, ¼ cup of lemon juice and a ¼ cup of water

Combine all these in a pot and bring it to the boil. Turn down the heat and boil lightly for 7 mins or until it reaches a caramel colour. Pour it all in a jar to let it cool down. Make sure your jar is glass and that it’s hot as well. A cold glass will crack due to the temperature difference. Place it out to cool down!

Sugar Soft Wax to use with a Strip

We’ll be using 1 cup of sugar, ¼ cup of lemon juice and a ¼ cup of water. Combine again and boil until it’s a light brown colour. Pour it into a jar to cool down.

Now it’s time to try this formula!!

Some tips for next time!

  1. Make sure you don’t over cook the sugar. It should be a light caramel colour and not a dark brown.
  2. For the hard wax you might want to play with it until it is soft and stretch it out a few times before removing your hair with it
  3. Sugaring or sugar wax is applied in the opposite way to normal wax which is applied AGAINST the direction of hair grown and pulled WITH the hair growth direction. This is so your hair doesn’t break before the root.
